Tips

Sometimes it takes multiple calls to get a person on the phone. Don’t give up! A lot of these resources have call/text/computer options. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. If you would like in-person support, call 988 and ask for a mobile crisis unit.

Skills in the moment

Temperature:

Change your body temperature. Get ice or an ice pack and put it on your face or hold it in your hand. Hold it as long as you can. You can also splash your face with cold water or fill a bowl with ice water and put your face in it.

Intense exercise

Get up and moving to match the emotions. Try jumping jacks, running, dancing or just shaking.

Paced breathing

Breath in for 4 counts. Exhale for 6 or until you can’t push anymore air out. You can also try to breathe in and on the exhale, hum.
